Alright, Let's Shoot This F****r!

Nothing much of substance, but it's been a while and I've got some pictures to share, so I'll try to be more regular.

A month or so ago we took the kids to The Wild Center's free day (because it's totally NOT worth the admission price otherwise).

I know this picture isn't the clearest, but, evidently we picked the day of spring when all turtles become amorous, because any enclosure with more than two of the little creatures in it had loads of turtle sex happening.
IMG_2631
Notice the two heads - Connor noticed this first "Dad look, that turtle's walking on the bottom underwater." Me: "That's, ah, two turtles and they're not just walking."

Around the corner there was a smaller enclosure that let me witness things up close:
IMG_2637
There were more, but how much turtle-porn does one person really need?

There was also some fishing in the pond:

And Des scaled a rock wall by stepping on an old man's head:

Do You Know What Your Problem Is?

You don't eat your feedback.

So I had my first annual physical today after several years, and now that I'm in my 30's I figured I'd be getting a free finger in my anus, so of course when the nurse took my BP it was a bit high (not out of limits, but getting up there). And then I didn't even get the 'ol UFIA, so there was no reason for me to be so worked up. Guess I should stop at Rite Aid later just to be sure my BP's where it should be. Although, who knows, they may put fingers in butts there, too.

Here's some pictures that I've been promising for a while.

IMG_2438

Des eats cookie dough, Connor's just...What is Connor doing?

IMG_2529

Cooper says hello.

IMG_2535

One time in the '80's, Ethan killed a guy.

IMG_2521

Desmond does not approve.

IMG_2556

Cindy talked me into growing my hair out, so I have to keep it out of my eyes when I exercise.

IMG_2563

Hence the ridiculous sweatbands.

IMG_2560

Desmond makes them look much cooler than I do.

IMG_2569

I think this one's my favorite, but unless you see the "Karate" and Kung Fu" headbands first, it doesn't necessarily make sense. Yes I do have Adult Braces.

IMG_2506

Oh shit it's a snow dinosaur!

As always, clicking on the pictures goes to my Flickr page where there's more to be seen.

Two Minutes and 40 Seconds of Happy

Let's hope I did this correctly - it was a big pain in the ass to figure out.

That's Connor singing and I played all of the instruments - I didn't spend as much time as I could have (if I HAD time, that is), so it needs some adjusting done to the sound levels and effects, and probably an edit or twenty, but there you go - I'll try to do stuff like this more often if this works!

Pictures, If You Please

He's become quite the little ham. There was absolutely NO prompting by Cindy and I for either of these outfit choices - the glasses making me laugh he hardest. I was busy with something upstairs, and when I came downstairs, he ran around the corner and looked up at me with a very serious expression on his face.

IMG_1992
He'll also kick back an' take 'er sleay, too. Awright awright awright.

Maybe tomorrow I'll dig through and put a pic or two of the older ones up. Maybe.

Yep.

See what I mean about him really being musically talented even though he doesn't sing so well?

Drama

As in "Drama Club." The boy was a prince. Here is the video. If we figure out how to get video off of the video camera, I'll throw some higher quality stuff up here.

Grumpy Connor

Me: Come on Connor, smile for the camera!
Connor: Reh!
Me: But if you put the bag together, the other kids will put Valentine's candies into it later.
Connor: Rowr!
Little Girl Across The Table From Connor: Don't worry, he's always like this when he's at this school.
Me: Oh.

Flickrd

IMG_1907.JPG

I've been meaning to keep up with my "post-more-often-even-if-its-inane-bullshit-I-saw-somewhere-else" policy, but I've actually had things other than watching cells fall into tubes&trade to accomplish this week. And the internets have been a big let down.

Anywho, one thing I've been kicking around the idea of doing for the last year or so is putting up videos of me embarrassing myself, guitar in hand, so that I'll be forced to learn complete songs. Yay or nay? and if yay, any requests? Especially for songs not typically thought of as "solo performance pieces?" It's probably something else I'll never get around to doing, but with sufficient encouragement, I can make an ass of myself for the benefit of the three people that read this blog.

Desmond Finds Snow

One of the more rewarding things about being a parent is being present for those moments when your offspring experience or notice things for the first time. We took the kids sledding sometime around the end of the year and although Desmond's played in the snow before, there was something fascinating about it to him this time around.

Somebody please hook me up with some video editing software so I can piece things together better and put some nice music over the top so I can stop with all these short clips with my irritating voice as commentary!

Garden Gnomes

Who needs to buy the ceramic ones when you've got kids?

IMG_1578.JPG

I can't remember when I took this. Obviously it was during the warmer months, we've now got loads of snow and the daytime high tomorrow is supposed to be something like 0° F. Colder than a witch's chesticle.

Halloween In January

PIC_0458.JPG
That's right, *TWO* Batmans and a Robin (after a short conversation with a coworker, it was decided that in cases such as this it is "Batmans" and not "Batmen." Batmen would just be stupid) and some lady we met at Tupper Lake's last remaining disco.

IMG_1835.JPG
I was only going to post the picture of the kids, then I decided to post this one as a means to explain what kind of an area that Cindy and I live in. I dressed up as a pregnant woman for our improptu "lets go eat sushi and go to one of Lake Placid's terrible night clubs" halloween celebration. Not one, but two different drunk men (both of whom had their "mate" present) suggested they'd like to take me home to perform unspeakable acts upon me. Now I know I'm pretty, but...Sorry, I just threw up in my mouth a little bit thinking about it.

I really need to put a few of the pictures I've flickred in the last two or three months up here...

Pictures As They Are Arranged On Flickr

I'm just going to dump these out here as I just dumped them on there before the end of the month.

Picture 073
This is proof that not cleaning up after yourself can sometimes have beautiful consequences. This is the brush and bucket that I used the last time the sewer line backed up into the basement. Not knowing what to do with it after it had been used to scrub up raw sewage, I put it outside the garage door and promptly forgot about it - until a morning glory grew up the handle. It's even bigger and fuller now than it was in the picture.
Picture 070
C-Man caught his first fish. Then, as it gasped for air, he swore that it was talking. Then a massive thundershower happened and we had to let the fish go while we fled back to the house.
Picture 062
I hope to god that this is some kind of sculpture that I saw in Burlington, otherwise, we've all got an awful lot to be worrying about.
Picture 056
I am a sturgeon. I am prehistoric. I poop out caviar.
Picture 054
This was the biggest damn garter snake I've ever seen. Apparently I was pretty excited about it, too, as this picture sucks.
Picture 052
This guy (or gal) is a soft-shell turtle. No word on whether or not they are as delicious as soft-shell crabs. I think that further research needs to be done.
Picture 047
Aw. They love each other.
Picture 045
I don't know what's going through this gentleman's mind.
Picture 033
This is a burbot, or freshwater ling cod. I also took a video of a giant snapping turtle, but lately my uploading capabilities have been severely restricted.
Picture 026
'At's a noice lookin schoonah.
Picture 014
We had one microburst that was very scary.
Picture 013
I was going to make a joke about losing the crops and bein' roont, but I didn't get the pictures put up soon enough and now the garden has more than rebounded.
Picture 012
The shed took quite a beating, as you can see. I drove home through it, and it was about the scariest damn thing I've ever had happen to me. The sky turned green (which it does before a tornadoe) and there was lighting and heavy rain and even storm surges off the ponds and mudslides down the hills, and I rescued a lady that was huddling in the bushes with her bike (I wouldn't have been huddling in trees next to a metal object in that kind of weather!).
Picture 002
I don't remember exactly what it was that spaceman spiff here was up to...
IMG_1445.JPG
Some more little woodland friends.
IMG_1460.JPG
WE took Connor pirate golfing for his birthday. I get the feeling that this dude wasn't the manliest man on the boat!
IMG_1482.JPG
The worst part about the water traps is haveing to use my cat-like ninja abilities to keep Connor from trying to put the ball in the drink - and down a waterfall and otherwise out of play.
IMG_1489.JPG
That's right. The pirates in this story weren't very nice to a baker. Right.
IMG_1500.JPG
This is some device that they would put the pirates in after hanging them, and apparently the pirates were more afraid of this than the hanging. They should have put them in it alive, as judging by where the cross-piece on this thing is, hanging would have been a mercy after five minutes in the crow cage.
IMG_1506.JPG
Post water balloon fight. Once the balloons were gone, it was time to play in the mud!
IMG_1510.JPG
Even though he sheds like it's going out of style, he's a pretty handsome dude.
IMG_1521.JPG
We've got a bunch of construction going on at work, and this little guy was out in the middle of it one morning when I got in - the day after there'd been some blasting. So I told the building director and he called in the DEC to come and rescue it. Any idea as to what kind of bird this is?
IMG_1520.JPG
I took video of the blasting as well, some of it was pretty awesome to watch. I hope the little friend here makes it though, even though according to laws of nature, he should be toast for leaving the nest too soon.
IMG_1526.JPG
Here's the garden a couple of weeks back. Since then, it done nothing but rain and even though that's caused all the plants to double and triple in size, nothing's ripening up like it should. We need some hot weather.
IMG_1524.JPG
I sat on the porch and enjoyed a nice cigar a couple of weeks back, and for some reason I felt very uncomfortable about some aspect of it all, but couldn't put my finger on what it was. Any ideas? Penis.
